The company’s look 4 me and look 4 help products were successfully introduced and launched by Vodacom in 2004. Look 4 me is a mobile location tracking service which allows a subscriber to locate up to 10 consenting Vodacom users. The service is available 24 hours a day, thus providing peace of mind. Look 4 help is a voice-free panic button. The subscriber saves an USSD string as a speed dial. If pressed, a distress alert will be sent to 4 specified contacts via SMS and will contain the subscriber’s location information.

In 2008 Cellfind launched the first location-based services on the MTN network, namely MTN WhereRU and MTN 2MyAid. MTN WhereRU is designed to provide cell phone tracking to a subscriber, thus allowing the mobile location tracking of up to 10 consenting MTN users. MTN 2MyAid is also a voice-free panic button, which will send a distress alert to 4 specified contacts via the saved USSD string, when pressed in an emergency.

Follow on Tracking and Guard Me are additional services on the MTN 2MyAid and Vodacom look 4 help services. Follow on Tacking allows your four emergency contacts to be able to locate you after you have sent them a panic alert. Your contacts will only be able to track you in the time limit after your panic, this is either set by you or a default of 120 min is used. Guard Me lets you activate a guard via USSD for a certain amount of time, either set by you or a default of 45min is used. If you do not deactivate the guard in the time stated then a panic will be sent to your four emergency contacts as soon as the time expires. This is useful if you are entering a dangerous area or travelling late at night.
